A useful resource with details of many theatre organists is a directory of organists (mostly theatre organ, some classical) online from Essex Organ Museum.- site sadly hacked 2021, so I have linked to a copy on archive.org.
David Price, Organist, Stockport born and educated, later a local teacher of music, formerly Assistant Organist at St George's in Stockport, visited the area in 2019, and at two churches I acted as his cameraman. The link will take you to a page about David with links to recordings of his visit to Stockport.
In addition to church/town hall pipe organs there is another style of pipe organ I like to listen to- increasingly rare as organs are dismantled, sold abroad, fall apart- and are now far too expensive to keep on the road- yes, the FAIRGROUND ORGAN.
Stockport Brass (formerly BT Band, formerly POEU Band) - alas the loss of sponsorship at last led to the demise of this historic band in early 2009. Elmfield Band, Stockport was founded and led by Jack Bennett, and when he died the band ceased. Just a couple of bands no longer with us alas.
Brass Band news is available from 4 Bars Rest
There are regular concerts at many brass band bandrooms, one to watch online, which offers a wide range of different bands, is courtesy of Boarshurst Silver Band channel or do a search: Boarshurst Band Club concerts. (I have to use a proxy that allows larger downloads for those last two as I don't have elliptical curve)
IBEW directory 2020 version of UK brass bands. Aggh- a 2021 web makeover and no navigation for me. Hurrah for archive.org: SO- here are the latest (rapidly ageing) archived pages I used- many of the web links are now dead, as are some of the bands! ( The new 2022 IBEW front page.)
Other parts of the web site recorded details of 8400 historic bands now no longer with us with as much as is known.
IBEW also have archived histories of brass bands archived from websites which may be no more (link to archive.org).
Details of brass bands was placed into single large pdf documents, which are listed on this archive.org link: Historic resources - notable works - there are MANY more, this is a major resource site - these were compiled to 2018 or 2019: Brass Bands of Scotland; Brass Bands of the British Isles (9 MB) Brass Bands of Wales
Here are some archived websites of brass bands- from the archive.org record of IBEW archives: archived from Brass Band websites which may be no more.
Archive.org has saved many websites with midi files - here is one from a lovely American lady who came to visit us- Lori Werth's Midi music
Lots of early British light music to download, especially Music While You Work from Masters of Melody - if their page looks blank, either disable css or enable graphics, their page requires one of these options! Plenty of information on the musicians.
To download old radio (OTR) MP3s, visit Old Radio World.
The United Nations was born of a dream of a peaceful and equal world. The organisation had (and still has) a media arm, initially United Nations Radio, who produced some optimistic and campaigning programs- and 215 of the classics are downloadable from United Nations Media- including two one hour programs by Norman Corwin and a BBC joint production.
A wonderful archive of old shows from Californian radio station kpfa - kpfa history courtesy of John Whiting. Some really excellent programs, drama, music, poetry, lots, and the quality is way up there with the classical BBC radio.
Current UK radio streams from www.radiofeeds.co.uk/ - excluding the BBC which is blocked by the BBC.
Online-Radio has an immense range of stations to choose from and a useful search facility.
A vast range of genres is available to stream from Internet Radio - some of the streams play nicely on my old PC but on many I have to strip the url by removing the initial (https://www.internet-radio.com/servers/tools/playlistgenerator/?u=) leaving the final http url and pasting it into smplayer (open url option).
One lovely station I discovered on Radiofeeds was Serenade Radio (192k) a small Bournemouth station of light music- you have to love anyone streaming old Music While You Work programs....
Streamed programs from Oldham Community Radio- has different music types and a genuine community station. Music the BBC can't be bothered with anymore. Folk, organ, classical, 50s, quite a mix typically in hour long programs.
A very different stream from France is Radio Lux with an emphasis on old style rock and a bit of more modern music too. Chances are you haven't heard much of what this station plays. Link is to a pls at tunein.
I recorded much of his music- sometimes at my request and sometimes at his request, and here in his memory is a short (three minute) sample of his 1965 Passacaglia in E Flat (mp3).
The recording is from his last recital at St Anns on 28/7/2015.
Ron is much missed.
Ron's widow Barbara passed away December 2017, also missed.
Read more about Ronald Frost with some mp3 files of his playing to listen to.
2018- current organist Simon Passmore has recorded a CD of music composed by Ronald Frost, available on request in church for a tenner. Marked as "Volume 1" so watch for another.
