Pictured at St Anns Church, Manchester, on the occaision of his retirement service, 2015.
1933 - 2015. Canon Ronald Frost died on 1st October 2015.
He was Director of Music at the Manchester City Centre Church of St. Ann from 1978.
I have been listening to Mr Frost's organ music for some decades, most of them at St Anns Church, Manchester, where he gave over 1100 lunchtime recitals.
I recorded much of his music- sometimes at my request and sometimes at his request.
Ron's widow Barbara passed away December 2017, also missed.
He was educated at Bury Grammar School and the Royal Manchester College of Music, now the RNCM. Ronald was associated with the Halle Orchestra from 1956 to 1996. He was accompanist to the Halle Choir from 1956-1972 and Chorus Master in 1972-1992. He was also principal organist for the Halle from 1974-1996.
He studied and taught at the RNCM for over fifty years, retiring in 2001.
Here are 80kbps MP3 files of a few of Ron's recordings:
2001 Norman Cocker: Tuba Tune
Ron had several unpublished hand written scores by Norman Cocker, several of which he recorded, played and in a few instances published.
2002 Douglas Steele: On Gibons Angels Song
2010 Douglas Steele: On the Triad
Douglas Steele was local to the area and was an independant adjudicator for organist David Price in the early 1960's also teaching local composer and recorder player John Turner.
2010 Craig Lang: Tuba Tune Opus 15
2011 Butterflies in the Rain by Sherman Myers aka Montague Ewing.
