During the past 13 years I have transfered over 12,000 disks from the TI-99/4A to the PC using the PC99 RSECTOR/WSECTOR utilities or TI99-PC. In most cases, to expedite the transfer I used numeric or alpha-numeric Windows filenames. As a result, the filename will frequently give no hint at the contents of the disk. While I have moved many of the disks to their relevant directories/folders, not all are organized as such. You will find a great many of the files mis-catagorized or in a generic folders. In some cases, this was due to the disk containing a mixture of files that made categorizing difficult. Some of the disks may contain corrupt sectors, filenames, etc.. Sadly, the inability to throughly test each disk is a consequence of one person attempting to preserve this many disks. Did I mention the duplicate files? Be prepared for a bunch, actually beyond a bunch. I deleted disks that were binary duplicates, but failed in finding the motivation necessary to uncover duplicate files in the remaining 12,000+ individual disks. In my younger days I might have written a computer program to do just that, but not so much now. Each directory contains a file titled !XXXXX-FILES.TXT, which is a list of the dsk files in the directory and sub-directories with a list of the files on each of the .dsk files and cross referenced by their TI disknames. Even with the listing you are likely to find yourself overwhelmed. I certainly was and still am. If you find yourself starting to near a level of frustration during your attempts to sort through this mostly unorganized heap, close your eyes, take a deep breath and remember that, as Ralph Waldo Emerson said; “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Ernie airernie@gmail.com
